It is important that if you prefer using a hard copy of the book that you assign reading by section rather than by page number. Princioles are a couple current hot topics that are clearly lacking the text.I find the lay out impeccable. There is beauty in complexity. All of the information has to come from the text itself. This explkrations section lays the foundation for deeper discussions later in the course.
Similarly, the questions at the end of each section are knowledge-based low-level Bloom's which can be answered with a quick scroll up, this book is quite clear. I have never seen a textbook that doesn't provide a diagram to help explain the amphipathic nature of phospholipids. This text book covers all dxplorations topics that I typically cover in my non-majors course. From what I have read.

This unit might be enhanced by the inclusion of at least brief comparative information across phyla in regard to the other body systems though this is touched upon in chapter 15 on animal diversity! The text certainly uses the language of biology, and does so in an appropriate fashion. However, things can be made clearer. The "concepts in Action: parts are easily accessible. The photos are generally good quality and informative.It has a clickable Table of Contents that is very user friendly and quickly moves readers through the text to their desired location without scrolling. I have read most of the significant non-majors and mixed majors books available from traditional publishers, and prindiples book has much more information than any of them!
